Nitto Ridge Grappler - The Best Combination (Hybrid) All-Terrain & Mud Terrain Tire?
The Nitto Ridge Grappler is a hybrid tire. That means it’s a combination of multiple things. In this case, it’s got the benefits of both an off-road mud tire as well as an all-terrain tire.
Here’s what’s worth knowing:
The tread pattern is aggressive but quieter than a traditional mud tire. It has a variable pitch to the tread blocks. Nitto used advanced sound equipment to design this tire to be quieter than a mud tire and still perform off-road. There are “Z” shaped grooves in the shoulder where the lengths and widths alternate to help clear out mud giving you much better traction
Like most of the other tires in the Nitto Grappler lineup, the Ridge Grappler has 2 different sidewall designs. This gives you some control over the overall look. Just like you used to have a choice with white letters or blackwall sides facing out, now you have a choice on 2 completely different looks giving you an aggressive or more aggressive appearance!
The tread blocks have reinforced foundations so you get reduced flex and rigidity where you need it
The bottom of the tread grooves have stone ejectors built in to reduce wear and tear on the tread compound
The shoulder lugs are staggered so they “bite” better when you get into the thick or deep stuff (mud, snow, etc.)
The tread blocks have tapered edges that alternate in location to help with traction even more.
To summarize, you get the performance of a mud tire in the mud, an all-terrain tire on the pavement and in snow, along with a noise level somewhere in between an all-terrain and mud-terrain tire. Most sizes are backed up with a mileage warranty to boot!
